Wow we have just had a new Pub/Restaurant open in Ickenham in Middlesex called the Old Fox. Unique means of cooking gorgeous locally bought butchers food by serving you with a hot organic rock and your choice of fabulous food such as steaks, fish lamb and chicken and you cook it to your liking. Believe me it is amazing, the food is reasonably priced, fun to eat and the drinks are fairly cheap. The service is fantastic as it is a family run restaurant/pub and there is 25% off in January. This gets 10 out of 10.

I went out to Restaurant23 in Leamington Spa recently for a special celebration, and it was absolutely fabulous. Like all the incredible meals that you see on the TV, as in the chefs competition for the Queens Birthday, but much much cheaper than ay of theirs. I felt like a happy Pru Leith!
Also the two owners were so very friendly, helpful and made us feel very welcome, not stufy at all.
so welcome to the area which is a far cry from London in its choices of excellent food
go there and delight in the flavours...

Century \Chinese Restaurant, 66-7 Upper Bridge lane, Canterbury, CT1 2NA
Excellent Chinese food freshly made. Cantones/Pekin/Sicuan
Nothing startling but way above average served with a smile! unusual in a Chinese. Clean and fresh. Lisa, originally from Hong Kong Via Glasgow, 18 years in Canterbury is a wonderful warm friendly hostess. She will arrange to cook anything the way YOU want it
Next door a platter luncheon restaurant she runs offers lunch for £4.80 on a limited menu

Frantoio. I just love the mad owner! He cracks me up totally. Bucci makes Frantoio work-remember to ask for enough potatoes to sustain human life.
No, its not really like that!

This was my first trip to London. I had dinner at Baltic and found it to be possibly the best meal I've ever had. Excellent eastern european food and the service was great. Baltic is expensive but worth it, and I highly recommend it.

Until last evening (5/02/05) i would have rated Westons in East Dulwich on Lordship Lane, however, my experience this time has been so severly tainted that i would recommend that it is avoided.
The food if they have it in stock is most often superbly delievered, however, last night it was in some cases cold, took three quarters of an hour for the starter to arrive, was incomplete in that the Duck salad had no duck in it...was assured that it would be taken off the bill, but wasnt. we then had to wait a further three quarters of an hour for our main course. Mistakes happen and this is not the real issue...it is how they are dealt with that concerned me most.
I have never in a restaurant been so aggressively dealt with and it totally spoiled what had started out to be a lovely evening...expecting good quisine and service. To be fair the service in this restaurant has always been incredibly lax, however, that was almost part of the charm and the food was always outstanding. I would not recommend anyone to complain because you will wish you never did.
My recommendation would be to avoid this place and with so many other quality restaurants, it should not be difficult.

I must say Amaya has offered food at its best. I think your critic doesnot know what he is talking about...if he found the lamb curry in Amaya the highpoint of his meal, he should stay clear of reviewing indian food! Amaya is all about grills (kababs) and biryanis; its curries are not the focus of its menu as anyone with any knowledge of indian food will tell you. and indian kebabs (the grilled ones) are marinated in yoghurt which forms its base and give them the smooth, soft taste and not lumps of fat, as your critic suggested!

I don't think it's true to say that salt marsh lamb from Norfolk misses the point. It is a matter of opinion whether the best comes from Wales - I have had excellent lamb from Romney Marsh in Kent and from the North Norfolk coast. In my experience, it is the salt marsh which is important, not its geographical location.

Have just had an excellent lunch at Le Petit Max in SW11, just off York Road where Foxtrot Oscar used to be. Apart from the normal lunch they do a plat du jour for £5. Certainly worth a visit.
RG Replies: Thanks for that Gilly will look into this restaurant in the near future

Wagamama in Camden was my first visit on my birthday in January. This was prior to heading over to the Jazz Cafe so it was imperative that we ate good fast food. It came highly recommended by a work colleague and I must say I was impressed with the lively atmosphere coupled with good fresh food. The party that came with were in agreement and we're looking forward to making a return visit in April as we're booked to see a band at the Jazz Cafe. Good food and music, the staff of life!!

Your panorama for the cinnamon restuarant does not work so please repair this so we can see what it's like!!!! But the site is excellent so well done to all your hardwork.

Thank you for your email. I have tested the Cinnammon Club panorama and it seems to be working fine. Depending on your Internet connection, it may take a minute or so to load.

I really needed to rave about the fantastic set-up at Baltic Restaurant.
The cocktails and blinis are to die for and the setting is just right. The menu is unusual and exquisite and the service first rate....10 out of 10!
RG Replies: Dear Richard
Thank you for your email. I quite agree that Baltic is a very commendable restaurant - in fact, I took my mother there for her birthday not long ago and she loved it as much as I did. You may be aware that we have a review & microsite for the Baltic.
Thanks for using Restaurant Guides.

Some dodgy searching going on here: entering WC1 does not bring up The Perseverance, and neither does entering "perseverance" although you do have a review on it!
You also have misspelt Abeno (shown as "Albeno") - one of my favourite restaurants. Fun but feels rather genuine and just the place to go on a cold day (although best for groups of 4 people) to sit around the hot plate and have ekonomi-yaki cooked directly in front of you. No sashimi or sushi, but great seaweed salad and small dieter-friendly portions of lovely interesting vegetables and must-try green tea icecream.
You should also try to include a review of La Cigala on Lambs Conduit St (assuming you haven't yet - don't trust your search engine!). Nice atmosphere for meeting friends, and pretty genuine spanish recipes and wines.
RG Replies: Dear S M C Peers
Thank you for your feedback. We have taken your comments on board. We are still developing the Restaurant Guides Web site and will ensure that the search terms you entered match correctly over the coming months .
We have not yet reviewed La Cigala, but I agree that it would be a good restaurant to review: I will try and make it a priority.

Just like to say you've got a good looking and informative site. I've got a mini-review for you guys about a little Indian in Putney.
The Bangladesh Curry Mahal (294 Upper Richmond Road) is one of Putney's oldest 'Indian' restaurants, established since 1971 and refurbished for 2002. It still has the same proprietor, Mr Islam, who is an
excellent host and is well loved by all who dine with him. The classic Bangalore Phal is still listed in the menu, a treat for those who loved eating it during the '70s with 40 poppadums and loads of lager!
There are of course newer dishes such as the Lamb Kallia, which is minted lamb cooked with potatoes and saffron, complemented by lemon rice. There is also Lamb Sajani, a must for tandoori lovers. This is a lamb
shashlik served in a lush gravy which brings out that smoky barbecued taste perfectly.
Service is second to none. However on busy weekends it can be hectic and waiting times increase dramatically.
RG Replies: James - Thanks for that little trip down memory lane. Pity the flocked wallpaper is gone, though. Anyone else fancy a retro-Indian?
