The Spice Islands of Malaysia have a long history of producing spices and herbs that brought many peoples to its shores.

Malay culture and cuisine has been strongly influenced by Siam, Java, and Sumatra as well as Arab, Indian and Chinese traders. This rich historical heritage has resulted in it's exotic cuisine.

Fresh aromatic herbs and roots pounded into a paste (Rempah Rempah), fresh coconut milk (Santan) and red chilis are the mainstay of Malay food.
