Jamie’s Italian
Jamie’s Italian – seasonal menu and exclusive dishes revealed
The Box
Newly opened in Soho at 11-12 Walker’s Court W1F 0ED, The Box is very different from most dining venues.
Perched right next to his La Brasserie McClements, chef-owner John McClements has taken an about turn from his favoured French cuisine restaurants and opened a Mediterranean tapas bar. So was the gamble worth it? It could hardly have paid off better. The cooking here is just knockout. Being a tapas outpost, yes, there are the usual suspects here such as houmos and potato salad, but even then the quality is just well above par. Then there are the house specialities which are on top of the men’s split of “hot” and “cold” tapas. From the hot tapas, the cream and mushroom croquettes are highly flavoursome while the exquisitely rendered grilled shoulder of lamb is perfectly matched with plum chutney. The speciality tapas damn near offer an endless list of hits including, pigeon pie infused with sliced almonds, cumin and coriander and topped off with caramelised sugar. There is also a masterfully executed tapas dish of scallops with a risotto of squid ink sauce. Well worth the trip to
