Urban Turban
Chef Vineet Bhatia is without doubt the UK’s most progressive Indian restaurant chef. This year not only has he retained his well-deserved Michelin star rating at the fabulous – but rather pricey – Rasoi Vineet Bhatia, he has gone on to open this new establishment. Taking a more casual and affordable approach, Bhatia plans to make this a concept which can also be launched in other towns and cities. Judging by the standard of cooking here, assuming the consistency can me maintained, he will have no problem at all. Start with the tapas-style items like the home smoked honey and mustard tandoori salmon which is perfectly matched with a freshly flavoured cucumber-dill raita. Also recommended is the masala red chicken with onion relish, along with the lamb seekh kebabs with rosemary. There are sharing platters too and while the “classic helpings” section delivers some familiar sounding dishes, they are superbly rendered with an authentically flavoured lamb biryani and a gorgeously made smoky-tasting baingan bharta (aubergine). Has Bhatia scored another hit? Absolutely!
